1847
Records suggest that there was a Presbyterian Church in Bradford – located on Holland Street.
1866
Land was purchased for a new church in Bradford at the corner of John and Church Streets. This was to be the site of the new Canada Presbyterian Church of Bradford. The building was to be replaced 27 years later; it was sold to the Anglican Church, was moved, and served as a parish hall for some years.
1893
The new Bradford Presbyterian Church was built. Dedication followed in 1894. Total cost of the church including furnace, pews and electrical fixtures was about $5,000.
1911
Church union with Methodists and Congregationalists was the issue. The results were 37 for union and 17 against. The union was not pursued for another fourteen years.
1925
Church union to form the United Church was again in the news. Bradford Presbyterian Church elected to remain Presbyterian. Out of a membership of 100 – 5 voted for union and 64 coted against union. Similar results were found at the Coulson Hill and Scotch Settlement Churches.
1966
St. John’s, Coulson’s Hill closed. Bradford Presbyterian Church now became known as St. John’s Bradford Presbyterian Church. The amalgamated congregation was to be known as St. John’s Presbyterian Church.
2000
It became clear that the present church building had to be replaced. At the Annual Meeting a motion to buy land for that purpose was carried. A site for the new St. John’s Presbyterian Church at the intersection of the Middletown Sideroad and the 8th Line was purchased.
