5th Sunday

One of the interesting and enjoyable areas of outreach is St. John’s association with a nearby nursing home. This takes place about three times per year .. every time there is a fifth Sunday in the month. A small group from St. John’s gathers at the home to assist the residents to take part in a worship service. Volunteers bring the residents from their rooms to the auditorium. Other volunteers distribute the hymn folios, read the scriptures, play the piano to accompany the singing and assist those gathered to find the hymns. Our minister gives a Reader’s Digest version of the sermon preached at St. John’s that morning. Other local churches take their turns to give the residents an opportunity to take part in a worship service each Sunday of the year.
